From JPMorgan to Street Style Icon

By avi maxwel / in , , , /

“It’s very eclectic,” Candace Marie, a social-media consultant and creator, says about her style. And while she might also describe it as “structured,” she admits that there’s also a sense of drama and sometimes, it verges on gaudy. So it makes perfect sense that Marie is a Fashion Week fixture. In a sea full of monotone looks, Marie stands out with a colorful and playful sense of style with looks like an oversize blazer from Acne Studios paired with a rosette choker; a cropped denim Mugler jacket coupled with short shorts and a tiny Coperni bag; or a rainbow, multicolored gown from Collina Strada and a bright-orange Valentino purse. She has a knack for sourcing clothing from across the spectrum, peppering her closet with high-end Schiaparelli, Chanel, and Givenchy pieces, garments from buzzy labels like the Attico and independent ones like So’ Fatoo, and even items from affordable brands like Charles & Keith. She also shops on Etsy and leans on a group Instagram chat with her friends to share new designers.

“I feel like the more I’ve grown, even just as a person in the industry, I’ve been able to make it a little bit more of my own

Is Donald Trump a style icon?

By avi maxwel / in , , , /

Unlock the Editor’s Digest for free

Donald Trump could not, in good conscience, be described as a chic man. He is not “sartorially elegant”, as the fashion designer Tom Ford has said of the current US president. He is neither trendy nor traditionally stylish. But is Donald Trump, nonetheless, a style icon?

That was the claim made by a sycophantic former aide, Stephen Miller, during an appearance on Fox News last week — one for which he has been widely panned. Miller had apparently been left incensed by a piece in the New York Times that lavished praise on “dapper” Joe Biden’s “timeless” style. It gushed: “Mr Biden gives offhand master classes on the wardrobe tricks that distract from the inevitable predations of time.”

Miller fought back. “The most stylish president and First Lady in our lifetimes are Donald Trump and Melania Trump. Donald Trump is a style icon!” he told — or rather shouted at — Fox anchor and Trump ally Sean Hannity. “He changed American fashion in The Apprentice — people spent the next ten years trying to dress like Donald Trump!

‘Accidental style icon’: how Larry David became the older man’s fashion idol | Fashion

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , , , , /

When Curb Your Enthusiasm emerged in 2000, the cult sitcom’s irascible star and creator, Larry David, wasn’t exactly a bastion of style. But over the critically acclaimed HBO comedy’s 12-season run, which draws to a close in the coming weeks, David has evolved into an unexpected fashion role model.

“Larry David is one of the bestdressed men on television,” New York magazine declared in 2020. On TikTok, videos from the likes of stylist Allison Bornstein examine the looks of an “accidental style icon”, celebrating the “classic, layered and practical” elements. Fashion publications have implored readers to channel his “laid-back dad style”. He has appeared on the front row at New York fashion week – admittedly with his fingers in his ears due to the loud music – and on the front of T-shirts, with one reading: “You’re allowed to be happy, but not in front of me.”

David has come a long way from The Pants Tent of the first episode, which centred on the awkward way his beige slacks bunched up around the groin when he sat down.

The David look entails plain, high-quality white Cotton Citizen T-shirts, well-fitting blazers, cashmere sweatshirts in muted colours, his favoured

The eternal style icon? Princess Diana’s legendary fashion sense explored

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , , , , /

The late, the great royal would have turned 62 on 1 July, had she lived. Euronews Culture looks into why she has always remained such an inspiration for designers and fashionistas across the globe.

As soon as she was caught into the public eye as a teenager, Princess Diana drew legions of fans, with many fixated on her impeccable style.

1 July marks what would have been her 62nd birthday and the legacy of her countless iconic outfits lives on, with Gen Z recreating the looks in millions of TikTok videos, often soundtracked with rapper Ice Spice’s hit tracksappropriately titled ‘Princess Diana’.

Nearly 26 years following her untimely death at the age of just 36, Diana has somehow managed to stay as arguably the most relevant style icon in history, with designers taking inspiration from her on a near constant basis.

Earlier this week, Jacquemus dedicated their latest collection, shown at Versailles Palace, to the late Princess. Called Le ChouChou, the show’s designs, headed up by Simon Porte Jacquemus, was described as a love letter to Diana.

Featuring iconic 1980s motifs, such as puff sleeves, tutu-inspired pieces and bubble hems, throughout, there were explicit references to her style drip

Pedro Pascal: The ‘Last of Us’ Star Is A Menswear Style Icon

Step aside, dad fashion. There’s a new menswear trend in town.

In 2023, the very best outfits seem to fall somewhere between looking vaguely paternal and experimentally maximalist. As it turns out, this stylistic niche is a gift that keeps on giving from Pedro Pascal, whose funky viral red-carpet wares are reliably reminiscent of a beloved older hip relative.

The Chilean-American actor, who stars in HBO’s The Last of Us and Disney’s The Mandalorians, has emerged as a bespectacled menswear star in recent weeks. His tendency to play father figure characters coupled with his penchant for playful knitwear, his recognizable thick retro glasses, and his comfort-first mentality have propelled him to the latest frontier of father-like dressing: the fun uncle.

Take, for instance, The Mandalorians press tour. At the show’s premiere in London on February 22, the 47-year-old sported a cropped fishnet knit cardigan partly buttoned to reveal a gray tank. He paired his top half with red voluminous waist-hugging trousers by Acne Studios and a pair of black boots. Be it the laissez-fair vibe of his
