Piles of pleats, big bags, longer everything: The strong style trends from Men’s Fashion Week Fall 2024 shows

Florence, Milan and Paris were unseasonably cold over the last two weeks as designers staged their Fall 2024 menswear collections during Pitti Uomo, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. Fitting, considering the clothes we were shown for next fall and winter prominently featured big coats and touched on enjoying the great outdoors. Some designers even celebrated the cold, like Pharrell, who closed out the Louis Vuitton show with a dusting of snow.

The runways were a showcase of looks that felt, on the whole, incredibly wearable. That was particularly evident in Milan, where Gucci launched a new menswear era for itself under the stewardship of Sabato De Sarno. If his predecessor, Alessandro Michele, was an unparalleled world-builder who pushed the boundaries of campy fashion, De Sarno seems set on making clothes that he — and a broader range of clients — want to wear.

There was a similar feeling in Paris, where many of the big houses offered up collections that were less editorialized than recent years, with more approachable silhouettes. Oversized pants, for example, were replaced by the familiar straight-leg, slim-cut trouser.

Beyond that, though, these are the trends that

Capturing the coolest kids in the hottest looks at Australia Fashion Week

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , , /

Think of Australian fashion and it’s likely loads of beige linen, beach-ready board shorts, and hippy-ish mini dresses will be conjured up. A quick look at the street style on show at Australian Fashion Week’s Resort 2023 edition last week obliterated those stereotypes, however, and proved there’s far more going on fashion-wise in Sydney’s streets than you’d probably first imagined. Right now, the city’s runways are evolving, as a new gene of young, emerging talent – like Alix Higginswhose front row challenged Chopova Lowena’s when it came to how many people were wearing her designs, and Digthe first First Nations brand to show solo on schedule – rise up.

As is the case when you’re in a world – and frustratingly slow DHL tracking time – away from Europe, brands born in both Australia and Aotearoa-New Zealand were on heavy rotation outside show venues. The bright leather creations of Kiwi bag label Yu Mei were seen slung over the shoulders of editors and models, and Caroline Reznik’s leather pieces were the uniform of Friday night. With so many of the week’s most highly anticipated shows that were both inspired by and featuring a catwalk full of the designers’

The best street style from Seoul Fashion Week

At Seoul Fashion Week some of the most arresting looks were found outside the star-studded shows as attendees arrived in style.

Seoul Fashion Week is a star-studded affair, with actors and K-pop artists among the high-profile guests seen on this season’s front rows.

Some of the most interesting looks, however, could be found outside, as attendees arrived in style for runway shows across the five-day Fall-Winter 2023 schedule. Others were worn by fashion fans who showed up simply looking for an opportunity to show off their personal style.

Amid chilly temperatures in South Korea’s capital, there were plenty of structured jackets and playful knitwear on display. And there was no shortage of eye-catching outfits.

“People have great fashion sense nowadays,” said 20-year-old Lee Hyeon-seo on his way into a show on Friday. “Koreans have progressed in this field, which I think is wonderful.”

Wearing a cropped women’s jacket, Lee said he was a fan of Korean designers ul:kin and Lee Seong-dong. “They create genderless and street wear styles — that’s why I like them so much.”

Elsewhere, 33-year-old Juno Jung arrived wearing an oversized Balenciaga shirt and Acne Studio pants.

‘Japanese fashion is so free’: The best street style at Tokyo Fashion Week

See some of the bold fashion found outside the Autumn-Winter 2023 shows.

In Tokyo’s Shibuya district, fashion enthusiasts came out in droves for this month’s Rakuten Fashion Week donning a mix of brightly-colored and experimental garments.

And as brands sent their Autumn-Winter 2023 collections down runways, the street style — in a city known for its bold fashion culture — was equally deserving of an audience.

Strikingly dyed hairstyles, monochromatic get-ups and oversized trench coats were all on display outside the week’s shows. Pairs of guests arrived in coordinating outfits with matching accessories such as tinted sunglasses or perpetually versatile beret.

Some, like 22-year-old Hiroto Murotani, who goes by the nickname Hii, were not here to attend shows, despite being dressed to impress. In the area for a photoshoot, she wore an oversized bubble gum pink sweater over a red gown and black platforms.

“Fashion is a tool I use to express myself,” he said. “The most fashionable people in Japan are following their own personal style rather than (what’s trending).”

Meanwhile, Ena, who didn’t share her surname out of privacy concerns, channeled a “dreamy,
