A Brief History of Her Unique Looks

By avi maxwel / in , /

Tilda Swinton’s androgynous, eclectic style makes her a malleable on-screen presence. Whether playing a high-powered general counsel in Michael Clayton, a literal witch in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, or a satire of Hollywood gossip columnist Hedda Hopper in Hail, Caesar!, she’s able to fully inhabit a role precisely because she isn’t quite like any of them. Or, maybe, even of this world. Though she’s been described as chameleon-like, even that isn’t quite accurate; Swinton never blends into the background. In Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash, for example, Swinton remains silent throughout. And in Suspiria, she brought chills down our spines with her two mysterious roles. Throughout Swinton’s illustrious career, she has come to find comfort in specific directors, like Wes Anderson or Bong Joon-ho, just as she has gravitated toward specific designers. While years ago, Swinton was fairly loyal to Lanvin, these days, she’s constantly supporting her good friend Haider Ackermann on red carpets, wearing his designs for her many Cannes appearances. When she’s not in Ackermann, though, a betting woman would put her in Chanel or Schiaparelli. At this point, Swinton knows her style and knows what works, and in honor of her

The leaves aren’t the only ones embracing bold colors this fall. Celebrity stylist Wouri Vice, whose clients include H.E.R. and Issa Rae, tells us bright red fashion will be “big.”

“We’re just coming off of Barbie pink and Beyoncé’s (“Renaissance” tour) silver” he adds. “We’re living in a bold era … It’s a time of expression.”

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , /

This article is part of Spring Fashion Month, where we’re breaking down your must-have fashion pieces for the next few months. From denim jackets to comfy sandals, we’re asking editors, influencers and experts about the go-to pieces they wear through spring and beyond.

With new seasons comes the opportunity for a fresh start. Whether you’re planning to get some deep cleaning done or set new goals for yourself, spring is the perfect time to take a step back and take a closer look at the things in our life that we often set to autopilot, including your wardrobe.

“Spring is defined by new beginnings,” explains NYC-based art world professional Jack Nelson. “It’s a moment to reintroduce vibrancy and light into our days, and it’s an opportunity for us all to consider our personal redefinitions or our style evolutions.” Hazel Morley, Bonobos’ vice president of design, echoes this sentiment. “As the weather starts to thaw, it’s a great time to be more playful and add some color or a fun print into your wardrobe.”

“Take the time to properly evaluate what you can eliminate from the year prior and assess the new pieces you want (to) usher in,” explains

What Do Fashion Buyers Actually Look For?

By avi maxwel / in , /

Just as quickly as a parade of models walk the runway, mens fashion month is over! There were billionaires sitting front row, cowboys walking the catwalk and a lot of new takes on suits, serving as catnip for tailoring aficionados worldwide. Plenty to get you starting that autumn/winter clothing wish list.

But in between all the theatrics – elevating catwalks, snowfall during the finale parade, celebs-turned-models; that type of thing – that come with these fashion extravaganzas, it can be hard to identify what is actually going to be in your wardrobe next season. Sure, you can have your hopes pinned on a pair of Dior ballet flats or a Louis Vuitton cactus-embroidered blazer, but the likelihood of them ending up in your favourite retailers is all down to the buyers that work for them.

This group of sartorial stalwarts riffle the rails post-show and decipher what’s going to fit best into their customer’s collections – meaning you can count on them to know what’ll flop and what won’t. That’s why we asked a handful of London’s best shops what they loved from the autumn/winter ’24 shows, and what they’ll be stocking next season.
