I was asked to tip while shopping online — guilt-tipping has gone too far

By avi maxwel / in , , , , /

He thought it put the “gratuitous” in gratuity.

As if “guilt tipping” wasn’t prevalent enough in the brick-and-mortar sphere, the gratuity-pressuring trend has metastasized to e-commerce as well.

A TikTok influencer raised eyebrows after revealing that he was asked to tip while shopping online, as detailed in a video with more than 400,000 views.

“Online shopping and this company asked for a tip??” wrote Noah Miller — who goes by @whiteboyonthebeat on the platform — in the caption over the clip.

The seven-second snippet showed the digital shopper flashing a quizzical expression before showing the tip list on the transaction, which apparently was made through the Shop Pay app; it asked customers whether they wanted to leave a gratuity before checking out.

Tip options ranged from 5% to 15% percent, although there was also an option to leave a custom tip, as well as “none.”

Needless to say, the TikTok commentariat was equally flummoxed by the digital tip jar with one commenter writing, “THERES NO WAY.”

“Like is the tip gonna make it ship faster orrr,” wondered one person, while someone else wondered to whom the gratuity would go, prompting a reply from Miller: “The mailman???? Idfk.”

The best thing about a denim skirt is its timelessness. Despite getting makeovers in the form of new lengths, high-slit details, and embellishments, the denim maxi skirt remains a transitional piece you can wear every season. For date night, team yours with a bustier.

I’m 70 years old — why shouldn’t my clothes convey my sexuality, and sense of style?

(CNN) — In the fall of 2019, I received an e-mail from a group of Parsons Fashion Design and Society MFA students who had been given the assignment to make a collection of clothes for “seniors,” as part of a course that involves creating designs that focus on disabled, plus-size, transgender and aging people. The students were divided into four teams, with each team charge to find a muse/collaborator within their respective category — to ensure primary research and a meaningful outcome. The students asked me for an interview, hoping that I might become their muse.

The students had gone around to senior centers, asking what older people want in their clothing. The answers — focused more on issues of fit, comfort and disguising signs of age — had discouraged them. Though these elements are important, the students seemed to want an aesthetic of age that could inspire them; they want to make old age high fashion, something beyond just function. (I think to

Why Eve-Lily Charlotte Is My New Favorite Fashion Follow

By avi maxwel / in , , , , /

Social media gets a bad rap for being addictive, promoting unrealistic standards of perfection, and in some cases, even being a national security risk. (TikTok even faces a possible ban in the U.S. because of it!). But I prefer to view the internet in a more positive light: I see it as a place to scroll and find endless style inspiration. Case in point: My latest fashion follow, who describes herself as a “maximalist cat lady,” is making me consider taking more risks with my wardrobe—and reminding me to have more fun with it, too. Enter Eve-Lily Charlotte

I first came across Eve-Lily’s content while mindlessly scrolling through TikTok one late evening. In her video, the creator and stylist—who is based in Manchester—was attempting to style a black beaded top. As she slipped on a bright pink mesh top and satin skirt underneath it, I was weary of the process—until she added a sculptural bolero, one single dangly earrings, and pointy Versace pumps. Combined, the maximalist ensemble, somehow, worked. “I call it ‘eclectic maximalism,’ as my outfits are inspired by a vast range of aesthetics and decades,” the creator tells Vogue of her personal style. “I’d say
