It almost feels like the crowds that accumulate outside of runway shows are not gathered to celebrate the fashion or the designer, but to catch

The United Nations wants fashion marketers to do better

“Sustainable fashion” has become an umbrella term for brands aiming to protect both the environment and the workers producing garments. The term’s growing popularity may be a sign that the fashion industry, dominated by mass-produced styles that move quickly from the catwalk to store, is waking up to its role in overconsumption, waste and carbon emissions (which the UN estimates at 10 per cent of global carbon impacts). But some fashion brands are overstating the sustainability of their products, says Nikki Byrne, a director at Fashion Takes Action, an organization currently conducting a government-backed study on Canadian consumer’s attitudes and behaviors toward sustainable and circular fashion. “There’s constant misinformation and so much greenwashing,” says Byrne. “Even if they are well-meaning, the fashion marketers don’t often understand the science or why there are 50 or more certifications to verify sustainability, which can make it hard for consumers to understand what they’re buying. Simone Ashley, Clara Rugaard And Jasmine Jobson On Chanel And Style

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , , , /

As the landmark V&A exhibition ‘Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto’ opens this month, ELLE takes over the museum with three breakthrough actors. They show us how they wear their favourite classic pieces from the house – and share their own style stories.

Simone Ashley

A teenage passion for vintage Hollywood movies – and their costumes – sparked the actor’s love of design.

Fashion is a ‘completely different world’ to the one Simone Ashley, 28, inhabited growing up between Surrey and California. ‘I was never like, “Oh my gosh, I really want that handbag.” Where and how I grew up, I was always outdoors. So I wore what I could go and play in and whatever my mum put me in,’ she explains.

Luc Braquet

Ashley is now, of course, a world- famous actor and fashion-month darling – a front-row fixture and regular on best- dressed lists thanks to her flair for glamour. The first fashion show she attended was in Paris for Chanel’s SS22 presentation, which celebrated the golden era of the Nineties catwalk complete with photo-

Men’s Fashion Trends 2024: 12 Style Moves to Make This Year

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , /

Though in a cosmic sense there’s no real difference between 11:59 on December 31st and 12:01 on January 1st, we swan dive into the new year with the belief that change is good, and that the biggest menswear trends of 2024 are meant to be invented, not decreed. Once Andy Cohen’s voice stops ringing in your ears and the champagne hangover wears off, you can get down to the business of deciding what sartorial upgrades, shimmies, and experiments you’d like to try on for size over the next 12 months. And us? We’re here to give you some ideas.

To that end, we polled the GQ staff—self-voted as the most stylish content squad in the northern hemisphere for 64 65 years running—to predict what we think will break out in the world of men’s style in 2024. Some of these predictions will blossom from seeds that we’ve already seen sprouting the last few months; some come from peering into the menswear crystal ball (which is easier to do when you’ve been sitting front-row at fashion shows and sending notes from the frontlines).

Take a look, take what you like, and leave the rest. Just make sure you tag us when
