From party-ready numbers to utilitarian designs, these one-and-done garments deliver style and simplicity.

Who doesn’t love a jumpsuit? An entire outfit built into one, it’s a lazy girl’s dream and a fashion-lover’s favourite dressing hack. Once you’ve got the right one, all you have to think about are accessories, boots and a jacket. In a world of ever-fleeting trends, jumpsuits for women possess a sartorial simplicity that never goes out of style.

What to look for in the best jumpsuit for women

When selecting the right jumpsuit, consider its versatility, says Toronto-based stylist Tania Tonello. For instance, sleeveless options are best for layering. “A body-hugging turtleneck layered under a jumpsuit transitions it from spring to winter,” she explains. “A T-shirt or long-sleeve makes it more casual.”

Another element to take into account is the length of women’s jumpsuits. “If it’s too short, it will be uncomfortable and unflattering. If it’s too long, it can also be unflattering, creating a distorted crotch length,” says Tonello.

For optimal comfort and outfit possibilities, opt for a design with a stretchy waistband. “You can add your

Don’t women deserve more from fashion?

By avi maxwel / in , , , /

PARIS — After the Row’s show on Wednesday, men in simple but just-a-bit-special long-sleeve T-shirts held silver trays in the courtyard of the brand’s headquarters, offering pretty white boxes of madeleines to the guests.

You couldn’t help but think of Proust and the “precious essence” of his madeleine at the beginning of “In Search of Lost Time” — or I couldn’t, anyway, as I bit into this spongy, evocative treat on my way to the Metro. It was perfectly dense, a bit lemony and washed with the most elegant coating of sugar. Subtle but sublime. Not too sweet.

Before the show, the Row’s publicist sent out an email asking attendees not to take pictures or videos, and each seat had a simple white notebook and pencil, encouraging you to take notes instead. This ruffled a few feathers — the Row, designed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, is enormously popular on TikTok, where it’s the crown jewel of quiet luxury and influencers hysterically reveal their scores from the line’s annual sample sale.

Some sniffed that this “phone ban” was a reaction to its nonnative online presence. But it seemed as though they just wanted everyone to sit back and enjoy the

Lolita style, explained: Why the Japanese-born, Victorian-inspired street style enchants women around the world

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , , , , /

CNN
 —

Ella hadn’t found a style that felt like her until a Lolita waltzed into her workplace in California’s Bay Area.

Not a “Lolita” in the Nabokovian sense, the woman was an adult dressed in Lolita fashion, a style of dress popularized in Japan in the mid-1990s and informed by the Victorian era and ornate Rococo art movement. The typical Lolita coord is unabashedly feminine, consisting of petticoats, ruffly layered dresses and delicate accessories.

Ella was transported. She’d grown up reading shōjo manga, or “girls’ comics,” and drawing art based on the Japanese countercultural styles she saw within them — the clothes, she assumed, were “very cute but unattainable” in America. She was fascinated by makeup but didn’t see herself in the “mature” looks championed by American media.

(CNN is referring to Ella by her first name only, as Lolitas can be harassed online by those who misunderstand or fetishize their practise.)

Her youthful obsession realized in front of her, Ella was inspired to buy her first piece of Lolita fashion in 2015, from the popular Lolita e-tailer Angel Pretty. She started out as a “lone Lolita” — she wore the clothes, but she didn’t know any other Lolitas.

Fashion influencer shares style mistake which can age women by ‘two decades’

By avi maxwel / in , , , , , , , /

Fashion and beauty influencer Shea Whitney shared with her one-and-a-half million subscribers how women can age themselves unnecessarily with a few style mishaps.

Fashion and what looks good is subjective and honoring your personal style is paramount.

However, according to the influencer, there are some objectively aging garments and accessories that people can do with ditching in order to look younger instantly.

According to Shea, there is one type of handbag women overwear but shouldn’t.

She told her subscribers that handbags with pockets on the outside are dated and “aging” – “they look so not good”.

She said: “I know a lot of you guys like your organization and you want to have a spot for your chapstick, a spot for your keys. I understand the appeal but it’s going to age you by like two decades.”

She continued: “There are so many stylish purses out there – they are very affordable – and all you need is a purse organizer.”

She recommended investing in a “sleek looking tote” and placing a handbag organizer inside of it.
